As a guy from Piedmont and a die-hard vermouth aficionado, my taste is obviously set towards the flavor profile of Vermouth di Torino. So you can imagine how Dolin Rouge caught me off guard with a totally different character than Italian's most famous PGI: much drier than Italian vermouth, I'd say less full-bodied in a very positive way, with a stunning aroma and a pleasant acidity that reminds of non-fortified wine and makes it dangerously easy to drink. Two big thumbs up, I can't wait to see how it works in classic cocktails calling for sweet Italian vermouth to give them a more floral vibe.Opificio Cucina e Bottega

One of the most easy going single malts in my (admittedly little) experience: just a hint of smoke on the nose leading the way to notes of honey, pear, toasted cereal and a bit of oakiness on the finish, all pretty subdued. I'd put it on the slightly more complex side of easy drinking whiskies, a safe choice for those nights when I'm not in the mood for complexity, and maybe recommend it as Scotch newcomers that fear the peat.

As my very first taste of Irish whiskey, much better than I would have thought of such a cheap and ubiquitous bottle: mildly sweet with notes of cookies and applesauce, a bit of oakiness on the finish, which is not going to last for long time. I can see why a lot of whisk(e)y snobs might throw shade at the basic Jameson bottling, but I can in full honesty see myself enjoying it pretty often without regrets when more complex whisk(e)ys aren't available or simply when I'm in the mood for an easy and decent drinker.

The nose is rich with sugar and a hint of chocolate and spice, while tasting reveals Demerara sugar and, as you sip, opens more of the subtle chocolate and spice, plus some pleasant oak notes. The finish is medium with a noticeable yet pleasant tannic astringency that links to the woody notes and dries out the palate. Overall, from the nose to the finish, it feels like a rum that evolves and reveals more of itself as you taste it and enjoy it. At a very reasonable price, it's a great rum for beginners that want to get to know more of the spirit, and something that you easily may see yourself indulging in over and over again.
