Booker's Bourbon Batch 2019-04 "Beaten Biscuits"
Bourbon — Kentucky , USATasted February 5, 2020Aroma is classic Booker’s but a bit drier and more oak-driven, not as oily and sweet as many other batches; Palate is quite nutty but here the sweet notes come up to balance out the oak more; Finish is a nice even fade out of sweet and rustic notes. Water brings out even more oak and nuttiness on the aroma, on the palate it turns the fruit a bit jammy and some biscuity notes arrive that remind me of the Jim Beam Distiller’s Cut.
Angel's Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky, USATasted February 1, 2020Sweetly interesting. Aroma is soft and sweet with layers of sweets without much in the way of rustic notes to balance it out; Palate follows suite being sweet all around without much to balance it out; Finish picks up more nutty notes and kind of ends like a PB&J.
Angel's Envy Rye Finished in Caribbean Rum Casks
Rye — USATasted February 1, 2020Aroma has a heavy baking spice – nutmeg dominant – quality to it, that sits nicely with the dessert and fruity sweet notes; Palate though is so so sweet, just one heavy sweet note after another that pummels through building and escalating to just shy of the tipping point; Finish borders on cloying, but pulls up just short with some dash of oak to keep it in line.
Ogden’s Own Porter’s Small Batch Rye 95
Rye — Utah, USATasted January 18, 2020It’s not dramatically different, it’s not wholly changed from your standard MGP rye like James E Pepper Rye or something, but there is a strange tartness in the Porter’s Small Batch Rye that’s unique. The basic profile is that of a younger MGP 95/5 which is perfectly sippable around the 3 years mark as JEP releases have so well shown.
Woodford Reserve Master's Collection Chocolate Malted Rye Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USATasted January 18, 2020Aroma is a soft dessert-sweet profile with some rustic hints that struggle to be noticed; Palate has a raw essence to it that reminds me of far too many of the not-so-great craft distilleries; Finish is short, harsh and metallic. Can’t say I like the end result, but I like that it exists
Glen Scotia Campbeltown Malts Festival 2019 Rum Cask Finish
Peated Single Malt — Campbeltown, ScotlandTasted January 10, 2020Aroma is shockingly oaky with a profile that moves from sweet to earthy and back; Palate is good, but lacks some of the depth the aroma carries and has less of the rum notes till water is added; Finish is pleasant and changes more sip-to-sip than most whiskys but stays on an earthy-smoky, herbal-spicy and lightly sweet track.
Ardbeg Supernova 2019
Peated Single Malt — Islay, ScotlandTasted January 10, 2020Aroma is crisp and clean, carrying a profile that reminds me of a bonfire at the beach; Palate has more of a saline kick, but hits the same minerally and lighter sweet notes that make this so interesting; Finish is my favorite part melding the malty, sweet and minerally notes together.
GlenDronach Master Vintage 1993 25 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, ScotlandTasted January 10, 2020Rich full aroma rolls out of the glass carrying a heaviness from the complex, darkly sweet, notes; Palate is equally heavy and full but with more complex fruity notes and bits of oak; Finish comes through darkly as well and lingers far longer than expected, but still not long enough.
GlenDronach Cask Strength Batch 8
Single Malt — Highlands, ScotlandTasted January 10, 2020Aroma is full and fruity with darker earthy notes combining nicely; Palate is very similar with minor shifts in the profile from tropical to more orchard style of fruitiness; Finish is a muddled sweet and earthy profile. It’s nice.
Angel's Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels Cask Strength (2019 Edition)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USATasted December 24, 2019The port comes in a bit heavy. The Aroma is very sweet and heavy with a strong sugary profile that screams port; Palate has the same basic profile and comes through heavy, dark and sweet with only the oak to really balance it out; Finish is one raisin away from cloying.
