Angel's Envy Cask Strength Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels (2020 Edition)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 14, 2021 (edited March 19, 2022)Nose- dark cherry, oak, chocolate faintly, redwood, dark plums Taste- Amazingly dense flavors. Cedar and oak, mingle with dark salted caramel, deep dark cherries, dark chocolate, baking spices and over 10 minutes in the glass the flavors develop more and more. Some apricot and pretzels later on. Lots of hug and warmth. Almost hard to get the individual notes, not because they are muted, it's the opposite, but because they are so loud and dense. It's pretty incredible. A few drops of water brought the cherry out and sweetened it down but I preferred the impact straight. Finish- lasts so loooong. Measured in minutes. Spice, caramel and almost cake batter, sweet lingering with a lot of wood, cherries and cedar are still there but now hints of mint tingle too. This was exceptional for my tastes. -
Nose- Corn husks on the grill, toast, apple skin, oak, vanilla bean, caramel, musky like a barrel room Taste - Heavy oak of course. Your really get the age right off the start, then vanilla and caramel, dark red apple, tannic, Finish- oak still, almost green pine with slight bitterness, I tasted this bottle 2x before I did notes. First pour was much oakier to me. I really wanted a bottle to taste the barrel in and this delivered. Great way to give a newbie a prominent flavor to look for in other bottles they taste but I wouldn't drink this often.199.99 USD per Bottle

Uncorking- Nose- Sweet vanilla, caramel, oak and tiny bits of gentle spice. Taste- warm woods like oak and walnut, age comes in with some leathers, dry, less sweet than the nose hinted at. Tasted against the Sweet Wheat and it's the exact opposite of that one with the 12yr being a lot of dark rich flavors. Some spice keeps it interesting. Finish- dry with wood, caramel and vanilla but not a lot of sweetness at all. Tannic. Some spice adds a touch of warmth. Finish is short and the age comes through. You really get the barrel.55.99 USD per Bottle

Uncorking- Nose- gave it some time to open up. Sweet first, fruity with banana, cherry, perfume, floral like dogwood blossom. Taste- very sweet, balanced a bit with some sour cherries, under ripe banana, small amounts of pepper spice but not extremely complex. Average mouthfeel. Finish- sweet with spice lingers for a short finish. Bits of the apricot with drying oak.

Bull Run 13yr Pinot Noir Finished
Blended American Whiskey — Oregon, USA
Reviewed January 2, 2021 (edited June 22, 2021)Uncorking- Nose- Mint and Tea Tree, Caramel and vanilla in the back end, some oak, red fruits Taste- less rye than the nose let on but it's there mid-palate. Dark fruits, cherry, mint, some dry tobacco, vanilla, baking spice, almost earthy. Very dry mouthfeel. Finish- there's the Pinot, dry tannic red wine finish, some barrel, bright fruits, vanilla, some spice, almost floral. Overall it's quite good. The nose, taste and finish are really separate tastings. Strong rye smell but the rye is mild on the taste, the fruits and spices come through instead but the finish is very Pinot Noir with barrel tannins and drying of the mouth leaving your with that dark berry and cherry, oak lingering on. Be great choice to pair with a steak.45.99 USD per Bottle -
Clyde May's Straight Rye
Rye — (bottled in) Alabama, USA
Reviewed January 1, 2021 (edited April 24, 2021)Uncorking- Nose- Sour green apple, light Mint, pink bubble gum, white pepper, green sweet melon, fennel Taste- Spice and sweet notes, eucalyptus, mint, fennel, some of that pink bubble gum makes its way in, astringent fruit, almost pink grapefruit Finish- cleanses into a mint, with bits of allspice and cinnamon, very little barrel for me but maybe dry hay and grass Overall- it's good but the flavors don't quite marry. If it stayed all in on the earthy grassy notes or over on the fruity side it would be great but instead of complex it tastes a bit confused and holds it back.
