Michter's US*1 Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 25, 2020 (edited June 20, 2020)Bananas, bananas, bananas, Juicy Fruit, bananas, honey, bananas, clove spice, bananas, caramelized sugar, bananas. Not complaining about it. Just stating facts here. Really is a tasty whiskey. I’ll never be one who complains about what I’m drinking... especially if it’s a gift from a friend. This is an easy sipper-there’s no bite or burn. It’s not very complex. Roll it out for someone who is dipping their toe in the water of being a “whiskey person” and they’ll become your best friend. -
Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 1, 2020 (edited February 2, 2020)Cloves, fresh split firewood, dried fruit, Big Red gum, rye bread, the edge of your baseball glove after you’ve chewed on it for an inning, and a soggy chai tea bag greet your nostrils. Don’t start sipping too soon. She needs to breathe. Though, fresh baked apple pie will take your breath away once it finally hits your lips. The burn is the right amount. Man, I don’t wanna brush my teeth ever. The finish is immaculate. Dark chocolate lingers for hours (minutes). Spearmint and cherries, too. Lovely, lovely drink. It’s about as viscous a whiskey I’ve ever had. The thing about well-done barrel-proof bourbon is shown here. Big smells. Big flavors. Big finish. And, just enough burn to remind you who’s in charge. -
Old Forester 1910 Old Fine Whisky
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 14, 2020 (edited January 25, 2020)Weirdly smelled Fruit Stripes Gum (wut), gummy candy, sugar, oranges, and peach yogurt (yes). A little bit more spice on the taste. The fruit is there, though, not at the forefront. Vanilla pound cake pokes its caloric head up to say hello. Lingers a bit on the finish. This was cool. -
High West A Midwinter Night's Dram Act 7 (All Scenes)
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed January 5, 2020 (edited July 1, 2022)PSA: this isn’t a tasting note, but a message in a bottle to anyone who will read this... I need another bottle of this. It is wonderful, and I’ve only found it one time. Wonderful. -
Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year Bourbon (107 Proof)

Little Book Chapter 3: The Road Home
Blended American Whiskey — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed November 22, 2019 (edited December 13, 2019)Buttered cinnamon toast that was cooked a bit too long. Spiced pipe tobacco, too. Smells how I’d want to, ya feel? Also, had to abandon ship a little early BC my ex-girlfriend walked into the bar I was in the night I’m proposing? I don’t really taste the proof...except maybe a slight burn on the finish. It’s surprisingly not-complex. But, enjoyable. Kinda snickerdoodle-y. Look, I had a thought of what this would taste like, and it didn’t super do that. Always kind of afraid the bartender didn’t give me what I asked for when I didn’t see the pour??? -
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch C919
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 20, 2019 (edited February 23, 2020)Powerful. Clove, cinnamon, Cherry/Vanilla Coke, and the smell of an empty pipe a few days after smoking. It’s sweetens over time. Faux-leather, root beer, baking spices, tobacco. All these things are frickin heavy weights. I like old. I like barrel proof. Therefore, I like this. TY ECBP. -
Knob Creek Single Barrel Select Bourbon

Balvenie The Week of Peat 14 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 7, 2019 (edited December 13, 2019)Wade into the peat smoke. Enjoy it. Now set it aside. Chocolate pudding snack pack, apple pie, and somehow a cinnamon roll (yeah, I said it) on the nose. The taste is all the details of creme brûlée. Sweet, creamy, torched sugar on top. A touch of pear towards the back. If you really think about the finish you can tell it’s peated. Sweet, sweet, sweet. Probably the kindest peated whiskey I’ve had.
