    Very pleasant and easygoing dram. Apple, honey, vanilla and a hint of perhaps orange on the finish. Very pleasant.

    Labelled ‘first release’. Carte D’Or vanilla ice cream. There‘s plenty of Bourbon, rye-whisky character here in the sweetness - telling that it’s from Bourbon and American wine casks. It’s all on the wood, this.

    Pears and apples, like smoky Applewood cheese, with a soft nougat and marzipan note on the finish. This is a sophisticated and more grown up Ardbeg.

    Smoky, briney, salty but mellow with grass and lemon. There’s a delicacy that’s far different to the punch of a similarly aged whisky from the neighbours.

    Sweetness from the wood - there must be some wine or some Sherry in the vatting - mingles with the warmth of the smoke. It’s a fruit cake by a warm fire. Cherry bakewells. There’s sea salt on the nose. It’s great.

    3/4 empty bottle and it keeps on giving. The oak is so resinous with pear drops and those little cherry pips that used to come in pink-striped paper bags. There’s apple mint too. It’s sweet and fresh and rather moreish.

    It could be the label fooling my senses, but I’m getting heaps of jammy marmalade and tropical fruits before the woody, caramel and stone fruit flavours come through. The finish is long and sweet. I tell you what, I need to visit Mackmyra.
