Trail's End 10 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Finished with Oregon Oak
Bourbon — Kentucky (bottled in Oregon), USA
Reviewed January 11, 2026This is a gem. If they put that this was a Heaven Hill 10 year toasted finish at 107 proof it would cost twice as much. As the glass sits and airs out it changes from toasted walnuts to pancakes and syrup. I paid $46 for this bottle and am thrilled that you can still find these gems if you do your research.46.0 USD per Bottle -
This a Party Source pick I got on sale for $78 while visiting friends. These are very active Madeira casks. Tropical fruits are bight and pronounced. Ben Nevis is a beefy, heavy spirit though and stands up beautifully. Ben Nevis uses brewers yeast instead of distillers yeast and I've always gotten a very dark brown bread note that makes me think of malty beer. This Madeira cask injects yellow tropical fruit to make the whisky sing. They were offering tastings of this at the store. After I tasted it I bought two bottles. Lots of Ben Nevis gets shipped to Japan for blends so finding double digit aged independent bottles is a treat. If you're in the Cincinnati area I wholeheartedly recommend you pick this up.

Old Overholt 12 Year Cask Strength Rye (2025 Release)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 25, 2025 (edited December 1, 2025)Nose: Reserved, but makes more sense after the sip. Sweet oak on the nose. Some fruit. Palate: Raspberry, cherry, sweet oak, maybe some cooked apple. This is a fruit bomb. Numbing on the tongue but not unbalanced. Medium viscosity. Coats well. Finish: Medium. Baked apple, rye grains and some mint as it fades. This is a pleasure to drink. Highly recommend. I'm coming back around to rye this winter with Sagamore 10 and some great low proof Jack picks. This has got to be one of the top ryes this year. 89.99 from Remedy Liquor -
The grain alcohol is detectable immediately. Maybe the ratio of malt to grain has changed. The sherry cask isn't a bad touch, but I'm fighting the grain alcohol the whole time. There are much better blended malts out there and even some better blended scotch for the price that are better incorporated.59.99 USD per Bottle

Campbeltown Loch Blended Malt Scotch Whisky
Blended Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed December 30, 2023 (edited May 20, 2025)(2023 Version) Kept my expectations low because of Campbelltown hype and the low price. How good could it really be? I was so surprised how much I love this stuff. This is a great introduction to a region many have a hard time breaking into. This is a funky, malty pour that is a homerun for the price.40.0 EUR per Bottle -
I had this at a bar (old label) and enjoyed it so I bought a bottle (new label). I don't know if this was a bad batch but it tastes like lemon pledge out of an aerosol can. I added water...lemon pledge. I let it sit neat for 30 minutes then tried it again..even more concentrated lemon pledge. There must be serious batch variation. I regret buying this bottle.80.0 USD per Bottle

I've owned three of the taller style bottles and all of them were bourbon influenced. This is my first of the shorter style bottles and it is significantly different. This bottle has a richer, sherried influence. I've read about this shift and can confirm it. That said, I think it's great. This is a rich dram.
