Rossville Union Single Barrel Straight Rye (2021 Release)
Rye — Indiana, USA
Reviewed December 26, 2022 (edited February 11, 2023)My local liquor store had their Roseville Union single barrels on clearance and luckily for me they had all 3 recipes to choose from. I did a blind tasting of all 3 to see if I could pick up any difference. They were all around 7 years of age and similar abv. A(#3 51/49) Aroma: fresh dill pops out of the glass! Cinnamon, green tea, and a hint of honey Flavor: honey, dill, hint of cinnamon, sweet oak, very easy to drink, however finish is medium-short Fantastic flavor if you like your rye a bit herbal. I just wish the finish was longer 8/10 B (#2 95/5) Aroma: charred oak, citrus rind, baking spice caramel Flavor: herbal, vanilla, cinnamon, charred oak, This one has rough edges but had a decent finish and unique flavors 7/10 C (#1 51/45/4) Aroma: fresh mint mojito/dill, honey. Really inviting nose! Flavor: minty, dill, baking spice, sweet and a bitter oak finish. Honestly this was the most disappointing. I really dislike bitter oak and that was pretty prevalent in this one. Nose was great but was mostly wood and spice. 6/10 Overall this was a really fun experiment! I did not expect that the higher the rye content went the less amount of dill I got. They were all pretty different and honestly only the first sample I would have picked to be mgp40.0 USD per Bottle -
This batch is a 10 year old wheated bourbon finished in rum, Calvados, and Cognac, then blended with 14 year old bourbon finished in Amontillado sherry. Aroma is fantastic with all the finishes providing a big fruitiness. Dark fruits and berries jump out of the glass with some baking spices and oak in the background. Flavor has that similar fruitiness but it's toned down a bit, rather, it's balanced by the barrel spice and oak. I thought this would be way too sweet given all the finishes and use of wheated bourbon but I was pleasantly surprised that the bourbon backbone was not lost.80.0 USD per Bottle

Joseph Magnus Triple Cask Finished Bourbon
Bourbon — Indiana (Finished and Bottled in Washington DC), USA
Reviewed December 25, 2022Aroma you get all the finishes on the nose especially the brandies, lots of fig and dried fruits. Pretty pleasant nose Flavor is quite sweet yet has a tart/mineral flavor I'm not fond of. Finishes with a fair amount of oak dried fruits and cherries. I'm torn on this one. So much I like about it but there is some off putting notes I can't get past. -
Blanton's Gold Edition
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 25, 2022 (edited December 26, 2022)Iconic Blanton's bottle with gold writing, what else can you ask for. Hopefully more flavor than the standard Blanton's. Aroma is quite nice, stone fruits and berries with some malt sweetness and oak. Flavor has a fair amount of spice but as it opens up you get all that buffalo trace fruitiness along with some malt syrup. Finish is medium length but enjoyable sweet oak Overall, quite an upgrade from the standard Blanton's (which I find rather boring). If you can find a bottle definitely worth it -
Kind of an old timey look to the bottle. I kind of dig it. Aroma has rich caramel, lots of oak, a bit smokey and some baking spice. Flavor has an almost a graham cracker smore thing going on. Especially with the smoke note, it brings back memories of camping out. Really rich and a great mouthfeel. Finish is smokey and spicy, medium plus length150.0 USD per Bottle

Torres Jaime I Reserva de la Familia
Spanish — Spain
Reviewed December 25, 2022 (edited February 10, 2023)One of the more unique and beautiful presentations of a box and bottle, shocking given the price being €70. Aroma is just absolutely fantastic, dried fruits, figs, red berries, oak just pop out of the glass Flavor follows suit and adds some extra complexity with just enough baking spices. Finish is decent given it's only 76 proof. I am shocked how good and bold a 76 proof spirit can be! Would easily be a 5 if it was slightly higher proof as the finish is medium length.70.0 EUR per Bottle -
Bardstown Bourbon Co. Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout (111.4 Proof)
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed December 25, 2022 (edited February 17, 2023)I'm a big bourbon county fan so this was fun to see hit the Chicagoland area. Aroma is different than what I would have expected. It's honey, oak, some baking spice, maybe a hint of coffee. The flavor is similar but holy cow it's a spicy bourbon and has a unique flavor progression. It starts with that honey and chocolate sweetness then hits hard with spice and finished pretty long with dark chocolate. For fans of bourbon county it might be worth it but I'm not sure at $170. Definitely enjoyable and unique but expensive170.0 USD per Bottle -
The box and bottle are a fantastic presentation and luckily the bourbon is just as good. Caramel, oak, vanilla, baking spice on the nose which carries through to the palate with some graham crackers as well. It coats the mouth with each sip and has a long spicy okay finish. Best beam product I've had to date250.0 USD per Bottle
