Maker's Mark Cask Strength
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 20, 2015 (edited December 18, 2015)I find that proof means a lot to the palate. I thried this at appox. 111 proof (my personal unopened bottle is 113 proof) and i enjoyed the extra kick. I feel that wheated bourboun needs something extra to compensate for the lack of rye and that change should lie in proofing. This one is agressive sweet and warth that finishes with a gentle Kentucky hug and off quickly. This is a nice sipper for the Makers fans out there. -
This is a surprise for an oldie! So smooth and comlplex (full disclosure; i had this on thd tour at Heavan Hill as a bonus tasting while honeymooning). On the nose you get dark brown sugar and currant. The palate finds vanilla, currant, carmel, faint baking spices, and wonderful oak flavors! I usually find old bourbon (over 15 years) to have too much oak but this one hits all the key points. When i have an extra $300 i will be buying a bottle!

This is a well balanced bourbon that i find quite pleasing. On the nose it is sweet with vanilla and ripe cherries. The palate finds much the same with some light spice and brown sugar. This one finishes clean with comforting warmth. One note for PA residents...buy it anywhere else. It retails for about $10 less in every other state to include the old Stitzle Weller Distillery (the Bulliet Whiskey Experience in Louisville, KY).
