Mono de Calenda Cucharillo, Reserva del Maestro
Mezcal Joven — Oaxaca, Mexico
Reviewed March 26, 2025 (edited March 27, 2025)Tried neat thanks to @Looneyhead who brought this mini back from Oaxaca. It is very earthy on the nose with notes of agave, vanilla, mint, green apple, and wood but when I say wood I mean the sticks you pick up as a kid or the stick your dog is chewing on… not that fresh barrel wood ha. On the palate it’s a typical mezcal and then I read Jared’s rubber and now I smell it and can’t get it off my palate either ha 😂😮💨. It was about to have a higher rating for sureeee. -

Mono de Calenda Jabalí
Mezcal Joven — Oaxaca, Mexico
Reviewed January 23, 2025 (edited January 24, 2025)Tried neat thanks to @Looneyhead and my lil Christmas taster :) To start, earth & green agave just slap me in the face but in the most gentle and refreshing way. It’s woody and smoky which is always a plus. I swear I initially got slight notes of cocoa on the nose but clearly that was my imagination. To the palate it’s deliciously spicy, warm, and with the most cozy and long lasting finish. -

Tried neat thanks to my lil taster from @looneyhead On the nose I get lots of grain, like wheat, and spice. Tried to let it sit and open up and it didn’t so I added a small ice cube. Andddd should have maybe gone with a couple drops of water but whatecer. Slight notes of vanilla & caramel, oak, and char to the nose and weird enough.. brine from a pickle jar which is brief and very interesting. I’m going to have to revisit this one again some day
