Tasted with David on 8/8/2020 Israel Single Malt A little peat. Vanilla. Corn? It's got peat which I think is actually an odd choice. I don't know why, if you're the first single malt distiller in Tel Aviv, you try to achieve a taste of Islay? This is a solid whisky but there's not much here I felt I needed to report. It's smooth and sweet and tastes like a young whisky. I like it. Would be happy to try their finished product.

Talisker Select Reserve (Game of Thrones-House Greyjoy)
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed August 25, 2020 (edited November 19, 2020)Tasted with David on 8/8/2020 Islands. Color added. Chill filtered. Delicious. Salt and sea, light peat. It's a very warm, winter-y taste. There's that Talisker toffee taste, but it's more complex here and just a bit harsher than the 10 year. Really delicious. I think I still prefer the 10 but this one is a bargain for how delicious it is and that makes me like it even more. A side note: I would have called this one House Borathean. The warmth here doesn't really say "We're seafaring bandits" to me. -
Old Potrero Straight Malt Whiskey finished in Port Barrels
Single Malt — California, USA
Reviewed August 25, 2020 (edited July 1, 2021)Tasted with David on 8/8/2020 Tennesee Whiskey Maybe the best thing I've ever had? Chalky sugar, licorice, dates, very complex. Very high ABV but not at all rough to drink. It's surprisingly smooth. It's a shame it's so rare! -
Aberlour A'bunadh Alba
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed August 25, 2020 (edited May 16, 2021)Tasted with David on 8/8/2020 Speyside. Probably natural color. Non-Chill Filtered. Incredible. Creamy vanilla, shorbread, a little peppery. Delicious. Really wish it was cheaper. If it was, it'd be a staple on my shelf. -
Tasted with David on 7/18/2020 Lowlands. Color Added. Chill Filtered. Nope. Not for me. And it's disappointing because there's a beautiful, nutty, floral nose. But it's totally betrayed by a boring taste. Very little flavor. Odd mouth feel. At 40 ABV and with color added, whatever is creating that beautiful aroma is smothered. Would love to try an independent bottling of Auchentoshan to see if there's more character there.

Glen Scotia 15 Year
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed August 25, 2020 (edited February 15, 2021)Tasted with David on 7/10/2020 Campbletown. Color possibly added, Non-Chill Filtered. This is a confident, spicy whisky. It's peppery and sweet on the nose. Orange and citrus-y. It really impressed at first. However, I felt the bottle lost its character quickly, which is not something that usually happens with scotch I buy. For the price, I really expected a higher integrity whisky. I'm very happy with that first taste and glad to have tried it, but I'd be hard-pressed to buy it again as almost all scotches that I'm a bigger fan of are less expensive. -
Kilkerran 8 Year Cask Strength (56.2% ABV)
Single Malt — Campbeltown , Scotland
Reviewed August 25, 2020 (edited September 6, 2020)Tasted with David 6/30/2020 Campbletown, Natural Color, Non-Chill Filtered A beast. 55.7% ABV, this thing is like sticking your face in an ignited rocket engine. It's intense. At first I was turned off by it but once I dug into the bottle I began to like it. It's grassy and spicy and full of complex flavor. In order to really get the tasting notes down I want to try another bottle. But I really enjoyed my time with Kilkerran 8. Worth a buy if cask strength is your thing. -
