Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Strength Tennessee Whiskey
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed October 24, 2020 (edited October 21, 2021)Ok let me preface by saying I hate the taste of JD no 7 and Gentleman Jack and think JD single barrel is just OK because I still get that signature JD flavor. The barrel strength, however, is a different story. On its own, it tastes like Bookers. Doing a side by side with bookers County ham and Backyard BBQ its just as good as county ham and tastes a little less rye and more corn than the bookers. I'm happy to say I didn't waste $60 on a JD whiskey. It's actually really good. -

Rabbit Hole Dareringer Straight Bourbon Finished in PX Sherry Casks
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 2, 2020 (edited May 31, 2021)Tried this first on its own from the neck pour. This was a good balance of bourbon and sherry. Then did a blind of this, Angel's Envy bourbon finished in port barrels, and Basil Hayden's Dark Rye blended with Port. Rabbit Hole held up as best overall. BH won as old and sweet favorite, and AE came out last with a harsh ethanol note and tinge of old house (mildew). I've never enjoyed the AE unless it was my first drink with no comparison to something beer -
Woodford Reserve Master's Collection 1838 Style White Corn Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 25, 2020 (edited September 2, 2020)sweet vanilla dusty corn on the nose and taste. once you can "see" past the dusty corn, it's white and green fruit with caramel sweetness. taste the last drop in the glass and you'll get caramel butter corn and hint of chocolate. didn't seem too complex at first but Im liking it more each glass. not worth 130 but definitely worth 60. this is my first of the master collection and my favorite woodford so far -
Booker's Bourbon Batch 2019-03 "Country Ham"
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 4, 2020 (edited December 20, 2020)This batch was the one that I had the highest hopes in but as most bourbon dreams go reality did not measure up. Don't get me wrong, this is a unique tasting bookers batch. It's sweet but like brown sugar soaked in rubbing alcohol. there's also a slight artificial sweetener note. I'm glad that I finally opened this bottle and removed the myth that surrounded it. Would I have liked beaten biscuits more? Maybe but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't live up to its hype either. Nothing really does in the end -
the neck pour if this scotch made me repent all of my bourbon affairs and vow to always put it above all others. the sweet dark fruit was everything you want a scotch aged in sherry cask to be. it was macallan double oaked and glengoyne 12 yr with all imperfections removed. no sulfur notes, only heaven. i can't even imagine what a longer aged glenfarclas could be. this is my favorite of favorites of all the regions. it will be a permanent fixture in my collection
