Early Times Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 21, 2019 (edited December 9, 2019)Nice surprise for bourbon <$30. Little nutty but heavier on the caramel. Some noticeable ethanol bitterness but only if you're looking for it. This is like the baby brother of Old Grandad 114 in taste -
Johnny Drum Private Stock Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 9, 2019 (edited February 4, 2020)first try: on the nose it had something extra that twinged my nose more than just ethanol burn. sweet bourbon with a hint of wet dog or dusty corn or cooked apples. Hard to say. on the palate it was HOT to the point it distracted from other notes. maybe that was the cinnamon or its unrefined. idk. even let it sit to mellow but no. with water, i finally was able to get to the other notes and get the cooked apples which added a tartness. this was unlike any other bourbon and that's why i liked it even though it fought me the whole way. looking forward to trying again and see what ice will do. this wasn't the longest, smoothest ride but a rickety wooden coaster that was basic and scared you a little. does anyone else do a screw cap under wax? that cap was a pain to crack open. -
I bought a second bottle of this on hype alone before having a first taste. Sure it has a delicate nose and well balanced taste but come on, so do a lot of other scotch. it's good but not amazing and certainly not worth driving in a panic to the store where a bottle was sighted. After chasing all these sought after bottles and whispering "my precious", I've been disappointed too many times. it's caused me to have a whiskey meltdown and question what have I been doing with my life and money collecting these bottles. I look at the unopened bottles and just see more disappointment to come. The whiskey i've really enjoyed are few and not ones being chased. Noahs Mill, Jefferson's Ocean Cask strength, Bookers, Baker's, Peerless. I've never been a follower and this is why. Somehow I got duped into following the whiskey sheep in my quest to explore the world of whiskey. My curious quest turned into a frantic race for the last bottle on the shelf just because it's what everyone else wants like a Christmas Eve panic to find that over commercialized toy. It's insanity. The more I watch youtube reviews, the more I see sponsored influencers and "kid glove" tasters who try not to upset any followers/patron. I have a lifetime of whiskey to drink and some of it will taste lovely and interesting and some will taste of regret. Nikka from the barrel was not the only disappointment but it was the straw. Rant complete.

Blanton's Original Single Barrel
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 18, 2019 (edited December 9, 2019)some days I don't love blanton's. I know it's my taste changing more than the whiskey. Today, I think it's unique and lovely. The cherry really comes through in this bourbon. My bottle is getting low and I want to appreciate it before it can take a turn into acetone. As my first blanton's, it was an up and down relationship because I wanted to play the field of rye, cask strength, and nutty goodness. As I say goodbye to this bottle, I look forward to the uncertainty of the next bottle and the oaky, cherry, complexity it will bring -
