Martell VSOP Medallion Cognac
Cognac — Cognac, France
Reviewed April 10, 2018 (edited August 15, 2018)Oaky caramel with a salty lime note (is this what they call "rancio"?). A little off-putting on its own, but the perfect kind of flavor for mixing with DiSaronno (my drink "fixer"). This actually gets better with oxidation, I noticed, bringing out more of the raisiny notes hidden behind the tang at first.39.99 USD per Bottle -
Distiller Summer Camp Opulence 41 Year Old Single Malt
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed April 1, 2018 (edited January 19, 2019)(sampled from @Generously_Paul's confiscated bottle) I never dreamed that I could feel anymore important than I already do! This whisky somehow made that possible, containing an entire meal that can be bought with a grad student's salary just on the nose! Mid-to-low tier wine, whiskies and brandies of all types, as well as a little gin, but only on Tuesday nights while watching Will and Grace because it makes me feel like Karen. The palate kicks it into high gear with red gummy bears, ramen, pine nuts (harvested manually from pine cones), and stray cat, smoked illegally on the balcony of a 3rd floor studio apartment. If I somehow manage to find another distraught @Distiller envoy with broken legs that I can convince to part with another taste, it would definitely be worth losing an afternoon in court testifying as a witness over! -1 star for E150 and chill filtration.999999.0 USD per Pour -
You get the citrus peel first, but that is only a feint while the coriander and juniper wind up to slap you right in the tastebuds. It's a quick hit though, followed by what feels like 82 of the other 18 or so flavors buried in a surprisingly smooth and gentle continuum that slowly rolls in. The mouthfeel is thick and oily. While it is difficult to pick out individual notes, it is not overwhelming either. This creeping baseline of interesting flavors, ranging from citrus to bitter to *almost-but-not-quite* sweet, eventually dies, leaving behind the more savory botanicals to chew on before the next sip. This is an excellent gin that I feel very bad about using in a few martinis, while waiting for Beefeater to go on sale. Also because it doesn't even make a particularly good martini, as it lacks the pronounced sweet licorice note that I like to have in there for balance. That's just my personal preference though, so take it how you will. I would rather drink this one neat though, paired with a good IPA.39.99 USD per Bottle

Knob Creek Small Batch Bourbon (NAS)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 24, 2018 (edited August 15, 2018)The nose is exactly what I always thought a typical bourbon should be: sweet, charred and hotter than a Tennessee Summer. Deep, bold, and full-bodied flavor to match. Vanilla, cream, honey, with dark wood char on the finish. I am not really much of a bourbon drinker, but this was the first one I tried that made me realize that there might be something to them.31.99 USD per Bottle -
Light and spicy citrus nose with vanilla and caramel. Predominately citrus on the entry, quickly followed by bitter oak. The finish is peppered with oak and rye spice. I don't really have my "bourbon legs" yet when it comes to distinguishing similar ones, but a few have really stood out. This one definitely doesn't...36.99 USD per Bottle

Saccharine caramel and honey vanilla on the nose, almost candy. Nuts mingle with some bitterness (more from the grain than the hops), and then the sweet honeyed character pokes through. It finishes on a slightly piney note as this sweetness quickly vanishes. This is when the hops really appear; to rescue Jameson's otherwise notoriousy short finish.34.99 USD per Bottle

Very strong bourbon influences on the nose, almost a powdered sugar dessert along with the honey and vanilla. This peels away to expose some fruit on the palate, pear and coconut. The usual bitterness from a blended whiskey is somewhat muted for this one, instead lending extra sweetness to the finish. For an ultra-cheap blend, you could do much worse!24.99 USD per Bottle

Glenmorangie The Original 10 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed March 12, 2018 (edited August 15, 2018)Sweet nose, with honey and grapes, citrus, Mediterranean flowers, slight peach, some nuts, and a subtle whiff of bubblegum, if taken far enough from the glass. There is honeyed orange peel on the palate, with a malted cereal character. A very slight drying occurs, and upon smacking, a faint dirty earthiness emerges with lemon oil, just a trace of peat, and something resembling farmyard straw.39.99 USD per Bottle -
Highland Park 12 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed March 12, 2018 (edited November 5, 2018)Sweet peat and tropical fruit on the nose, with some dark honey and sherried sweetness in the back. The complexity hits you right away, with the same notes concentrated in a puff of smoke, which then fades into grass. The aftertaste involves charcoal ash, but nothing like Islay. The overall experience is like an outdoor Summer barbecue with smoked honeyed pineapple.52.99 USD per Bottle -
Glenlivet 12 Year Double Oak
