1800 Reposado Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Tequila Valley, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed May 27, 2018 (edited August 15, 2018)Very savory nose: olive brine, lemon juice, and melted butter. The entry is thin, with peppery lemon and just a hint of fruit, carried on something green. There isn't much of a finish to speak of; everything just dissolves abruptly, leaving behind a trace of salt. It gets a half star for personality, but I really don't care for this stuff personally.29.99 USD per Bottle -
Jose Cuervo Especial Gold Tequila
Tequila Mixto — Tequila Valley, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed May 20, 2018 (edited August 15, 2018)The nose is lemon starburst and scratch-and-sniff grape-scented stickers dissolved in paint thinner, with a pinch of salt and pepper. The entry is somewhat harsh, with an explosion of salt and artificial lemon. The whole thing tastes like "yellow". The finish is earthy, but not quite vegetal or anything else associated with a good lowland tequila, just kind of dirty. Drinking this makes me feel dirty. I will dump the rest of it in a margarita, as Nature intended.19.99 USD per Bottle -
Casamigos Añejo Tequila
Tequila Añejo — Highlands, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed May 11, 2018 (edited August 15, 2018)While the reposado was perfume, the nose on this one is cologne; a working man's musk, with cedar, sawdust, and wood glue. The woodcraft section of a hobby store. There is a slight orange-vanilla in the background as well, but dominated by the masculine notes. Yeah, George Clooney definitely made this. The entry first delivers apple cider aged in wood, almost feeling like a brandy at this stage. Salty lime pops out before too long, to remind you exactly what it is you're drinking, and swirl into the brandy notes to finish at the same time. An easygoing cantina drink wrapped in a (very thin) air of sophistication.61.99 USD per Bottle -
Casamigos Reposado Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed May 8, 2018 (edited August 15, 2018)The nose begins buttery, and quickly evolves into a wonderful salted buttercream. There's a little more honey on this nose as well, and VERY perfumed vanilla. Floral vanilla, like the kind in a scented candle. Also honeysuckle. Beautiful nose. When you think you've smelled everything, cinnamon candy shows up, of all things, with some chili dotted in. The flavor is sweet and peppery at the same time, followed by a trickle of salt. There is also a citrus character (finally, some lime in tequila!), but with a thumping baseline of vanilla throughout. It finishes almost syrupy sweet, characteristic of the style I hear, with some drying salty prickles that last much longer than I would have imagined.56.99 USD per Bottle -
Casamigos Blanco Tequila
Tequila Blanco — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed May 7, 2018 (edited October 7, 2018)Three open 50mL bottles of Casamigas tequila in my collection, and I'm comparing the styles! You see, @ScotchingHard is doing this thing...ah, nevermind. I've pretty much only ever tried Jose Cuervo in a margarita before, and wanted to do something educational for Cinco de Mayo, you know, while the "children" are all out drinking -.^ Sharpies and grape cough syrup on the nose (woah, this is different...) and salted vanilla modeling clay on the palate. This seems like a lighter tequila, but one of the most eccentric things I've tasted. The finish kind of reminds me of an Irish Whiskey: light, fading vanilla, with plenty of herbal/earthy things going on. I think I finally understand how this tequila stuff has actual tasting notes. Color me intrigued! :051.99 USD per Bottle -
Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 10, 2018 (edited April 25, 2020)Toffee, fruit, and a little char on the nose. The entry is a tad spicy, then a blast of the 100 proof delivers an explosion of flavor, with honey, vanilla, cherry, and more wood char. The hot finish washes over you in waves, like... Well, let's just say it's *really* good bourbon 😜44.99 USD per Bottle -
The somewhat strong alcoholic nose (though not quite Courvoisier strong) has orchard fruit, particularly apple juice, surrounded by baking spice; think hot apple cider. These flavors are fully accounted for on the palate as well, joined by juicy dark fruit, peach, and raisin. It finishes spicy and a bit dry. A delightful after-dinner drink for any season. This, along with the Sagittarian iconography, has earned Remy the esteemed position of my "house Cognac", with this bottle currently in rotation with the 1738.46.99 USD per Bottle
