Talisker Distillers Edition
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed August 11, 2020 (edited December 8, 2020)Not a very Talisker-like whisky. It is the Talisker 10 matured in Sherry cask for extra 1 year. The smokiness is not so strong. A bit similar to Lagavulin 16 due to the sherry influence. However, there are more seashell, sea breeze comes out like you are at a beach. Nosing: Caramel pudding, bonfire and sherry wine of course. Bacon, macadamia. After I take 1 sip, the smokiness comes out stronger. Tasting: sweet and salty. Pepper kick and the strong smokeiness come out immediately like the great Talisker 10. A hint of sea water. Finishing: sea breeze/ sea water, shellfish. **Version: 1998 TD-S: 5LX -
Heavyly peated, but well balanced. Strong smokiness, but the sweetness underneath is amazing. Nosing: Both smokiness and sweetness comes in. Ash, burnt wood, medicinal, vanilla, melon, figs, maybe handmade candies? Floral, and honey-like sweetness. Cinnamon stick toasted with a hand torch - nearly burnt but a touch of toasted cinnamon. Palate: oak, ash, melon, sweetness, leathery, citrusy. Finish: long ashy, charcoal lingering. A little touch of orange peel.

Quite a fun whisky - or say, it’s a spirit drink. It officially cannot be called “scotch whisky” due to the 1% “sacrificial” grain whisky. Nosing: At first, grassy and touch of caramel. This whisky will open up with time. By giving more time, more flavour will come up. Apple, banana, vanilla, orange blossom, pineapple, custard, caramel, maybe cream brûlée? It sort of reminds me the flavour of Vanilla Coke. Tasting: sweet, grassy, oaky, orange blossom, oily. Finish: grassy, oaky.

GlenDronach Allardice 18 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 11, 2020 (edited February 5, 2022)Heavily influenced by the maturation in sherry cask. It’s a great and amazing sherry bomb whisky, but just my personal taste preference that I don’t really like a heavy sherry-influenced whisky. That’s the reason for giving 3.5 stars. If you like sherry cask matured whisky, this is definitely your choice. Nosing: Clove, berries, raisins/dried fruit, cooked peach with caramel glaze, dark chocolate, ripen banana, maybe bread pudding?Tobacco, vanilla, oak. A hint of lemon zest. Tasting: berries, dried fruit, a hint of tobacco. Finish: oakness and spices. -
Nosing: ripen banana/ banana candy, caramel, custard, butter, black currant, grape, pear, circuit fruit, strawberry, vanilla, raspberry, latte and white chocolate. Amazingly sweet. Tasting: red wine, pears, fresh fruit and cooked fruit, sweet. Finishing: lemon peel, plum. Bitterness at the end. ** Cask number: W140108029A

A complex dram. Almost every time I can notice something new/ something different. Nosing: Iodine, smoked bacon, dried salty fish, nutty. My friend can tell there is a hint of Chinese medicine. The sherry influence hides underneath the peat smoke - berries, raisins, vanilla, wine. Reminds me the great time during high school - BBQ near the beach. The sea breeze, charcoal, honey glazed on sausages and fish balls. (You will know what I am talking if your are living in Hong Kong:p ) Tasting: sweet on the palate, oaky, fishy, smoky, peppery/spicy, touch of salt. Finishing: a long oaky and smoky finishing lingering.
