Paul John Christmas Edition 2019
Single Malt — Goa , India
Reviewed December 4, 2019 (edited January 31, 2021)Among the first people in the us to try this from a drammers club tasting with @Richard-ModernDrinking and had this immediately after the 2018. This one edges out the 2018 with notes of Chocolate, Dates, Sultanas, Vanilla, Prunes, Espresso, Peat, Figs, Guava, Citrus, Pineapple, Toffee, and Banana. This was aged 5 years in bourbon casks and a further 2 years finished in PX casks. Interestingly, unlike the sherry seasoned casks common in the whisky industry, Paul John uses the casks that were actually used to age sherry for 10-15 years -

Had this in a Suntory tasting involving toki components, Harmony components, legent, and ao. This is ok with notes of Apple, Pear, Vanilla, Honey, Mint, Grass, Caramel, Floral notes, and slightly Peated. This was presented alongside a lightly Peated Hakushu malt and a Chita heavy grain. Lightly Peated Hakushu: Green Apple, Marshmallow, Vanilla, Pear, Mint, Citrus, Apricot. This is the Toki's main component Chita Heavy Grain: Vanilla, Grassy, Corn, Caramel, Citrus, Marshmallow, Floral, Mint, Cotton Candy Liked the Chita heavy grain component the most and the parts outweighed the sum.
