a sweet caramel note to start that begins to bring out some cinnamon spice, light mint, some herbality, orange peels and some mild fruity notes. Closer to the finish the oak and spice comes out, with the finish beging long and hot on account of the ABV (119 proof). Its not mind blowing but it makes a good old fashion, is a great price for a cask strength and reminds me a bit of the old forester rye. although lacking the more floral and eucalyptus notes of the forester.

Man is this the best thing ive had from balcones. You start off with some caramel, wet oak, damp hay, brown sugar. You then get some intense fruity notes, mostly dark prune and strawberries along with walnuts. The finish had a toasted coconut, baking spice and fruity finish thats long and flavorful. Proof point is perfect as well so all an all this has jumped to the top of my fav single malts. I really need to try more from balcones

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch C923
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 25, 2024 (edited March 9, 2024)Intense and robust while still being enjoyable and complex, there is dark chocolate, caramel, nuts like walnut or chestnut, robust tannic oak, leather, cherrywood, and mild prune. The finish has an intense ethanol tingle, is long in duration and has notes of baking spice, tannin and cocoa. I understand the hype behind this batch and i will say its a fantastic barrel proof -
Andalusia Revenant Oak Peated Single Malt
American Single Malt — Texas, USA
Reviewed February 17, 2024I am drinking a group pick thats coming in at 112.89 proof. There is a robust salted caramel, intense leather and very strong oak coming right of the bat. White pepper, hints of prune, earth and mild peat smoke come into play before the proof starts to show its power. The leather and tannin comes back, with a earth robust finish. This is a great bottle, with Andalusia cementing itself in the top 3 american single malts ive had so far. -
Glenallachie 2006 Single Cask 16 Year Old Oloroso Puncheon
Single Malt — Scotland
Reviewed February 10, 2024Intense caramel, hay, moderate oak, honey and cardamon, and marzipan. Body produces more oak, prune, fig, mild coffee and nuttiness that is heavenly. the finish comes with the prune, heavy baking spice and toffee. this is a fantastic dram, and the best ive had from glenallachie so far. Very happy with this dram! -
Salted caramel, dashes of vanilla, oakiness and a mild funk reminiscent of wet hay, later on some prune/red berry notes emerge along with some mild nutty notes from the sherry, there is also slight whisps of peat smoke near the finish but much lighter than anything longrow. The finish takes some of the wey hay, prune and peat with mild baking spice that lasts medium length.

Fruity and rich, immediately hit with a honey note, dried fig, roasted banana, citrus, vanilla and molasses. The finish bring a slight funk but is taken over by the molasses, slight baking spice and fruit. i really love plantation, they go above and beyond to bring cool new rums to the market with a great pricepoint. this barbados/venezuelan blend is really great for the price point!23.0 USD per Bottle

Middle West Spirits Ported Pumpernickel Rye
Rye — Ohio, USA
Reviewed February 5, 2024 (edited February 6, 2024)A dark, almost malty note, then more standard herbal rye notes, menthol, dill, then some robust oak, hay, dark fruits like plum but also a bright ding of apple similar to calvados. The finish is easy and medium to long, but a fruity, spicy and rich notes during the duration. im not sure if i like this one or the original dark pumpernickel better, while i like the fruitiness im thinking id enjoy it more without. but if you are a port finish fan, 100% go for this one. -
A rush of sweet caramel, dashes of vanilla, cardamon, walnut, and decadent baking spice. the sherry comes into play with a light berry note, but still moderately nutty. the finish is medium, not super smooth finish hut has enough spice and molasses-esque notes that its delightful. Very good price too!!
