Laphroaig 10 Year Sherry Oak Finish
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed August 5, 2021 (edited August 11, 2021)Nose. Rich sherry, raisins and light smoke. A touch of brine. Palate. Sweet and smoky dried fruits with some spice. Finish. Medium-long and smoky. This is a lush whisky that takes Laphroaig 10 and adds flavours reminiscent of black forest gateau; I’m a big fan. -
Benriach The Smoky Ten
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed August 3, 2021 (edited September 3, 2021)Nose. Fresh and floral, with some sweet smoke. Palate. Smoky, maple syrup. Finish. Medium, smoke and vanilla. -
This is a lovely whisky, and my first from India. I can’t wait to find out if they’re all this good. Nose. Caramelised smoky bacon with a slight earthy, peaty undertone. Palate. Tart summer fruits and vanilla. Finish. Here’s where you get the peat, and a touch of lingering smoke. Peppery and spicy. It’s expensive in comparison to my favourite Islays but definitely worth experiencing.

Colour. Golden, russet apple. Nose. Some dried fruit and sherry sweetness but there's also a slightly odd, almost cheese-like note sitting underneath everything else. Palate. Tart fruit, peppery acidity, a touch of vanilla, and oak. Finish. Oily with a bitter aftertaste that lingers, and more of that oak.

Nose. Fresh and light, mostly grapefruit. You can just about pick up some smoke if you really look for it. Palate. Citrus (grapefruit) and spice. Again, if you look for it, there’s a touch of smoke. Finish. A lingering warmth. Even though it was only peated to 15ppm I was expecting a touch more peat and smoke from this, so found it a little disappointing.
