sample/I seriously can't believe how good this is, I will buy a bottle of this soon. Light and sweet yet also w some body behind it. Full: I've loved drinking this bottle. Nose: toffee and brown sugar. Overall, the smokiness here is so well balanced, I don't know how anyone could dislike this. Finish is on shorter side though remnants of that smoke and very subtle fruit stay on the tongue. x bottle

High West Campfire (Discontinued)
Blended American Whiskey — (bottled in Utah), Multiple Countries
Reviewed December 2, 2017 (edited March 7, 2018)sample/moderate peat, interesting though not necessarily my taste. 2nd sample/all parts of this bottle come through yet again, the peat will make it or break it for most. -
Macallan 12 Year Sherry Oak Cask
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 2, 2017 (edited November 30, 2023)sample/great sweet vanilla on nose, a little harsher on finish 11/30/23 update: can texture be the highlight? So full, rich, creamy... almond, honey, and light fruit. Bumped up rating a bit. -
sample/way too much peat for me 2nd Tasting - adding a star, as I appreciate the boldness here. Nose is hugely medicinal, on tongue it has chlorine and almost a turpentine-like quality. Is this good?? A year ago, I probably wouldn't be at all interested in a dram of this. Now, I like it. A lot. I wouldn't want it as a daily drink but it is incomparable when the mood is right. VS Lagavulin? This is bigger and bolder but for me, I'll take some of the subtleties of Lagavulin. However, once you start liking peat, both are obviously mainstays of Islay Scotch.
