Longrow Peated
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed October 6, 2023 (edited October 20, 2023)Now we’re talking sweet smoke, not a harsh push you away smoke, this is an inviting rich smoke on the nose. Honey glazed meat on a embered fire with little smoke. (Compared to ledaig, caol ila, laphoroaig etc.) Taste is full, that 46% bringing through the flavour. Really lovely. Cant complain on this one apart from the scarcity of sourcing a bottle! -
Smell is very much loke a laphroaig 10. Getting that engine oil, maritime salt and brine type of smoke and peat. There is a small bit of vanilla and caramel hiding on the nose that you wont smell on a laphroag! The taste is sharp and spicy, big brine notes coming through here. For the price of this bottle you really can’t go wrong here tbh!

Kilkerran 8 Year Cask Strength Sherry Cask (2019)
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed March 22, 2023 (edited May 18, 2024)On the nose is the Funky cheese smell, combined with the darker sherry sweetness for a super interesting whiff. Similar nose to an Octomore in some ways, but super funky! Wow the taste is strange, the abv does make it evaporate almost on the tounge but the funky nose does translates to the pallate. Its a dark sherry not a sweet fruity one and crazy flavours i maybe can’t fully appreciate…120.0 GBP per Bottle -
Chocolate Stwberries on the nose, the brine/salt staying back weirdly for a maratime malt. Taste is quite like the glengoyne 10 I’ve had mixed with black bottle… not as punchy as say a talikser or an islay no no no…Dont think im really going to enjoy the bottle unfortunately. Its ok but very much in that lowish tier of supermarket whisky34.25 GBP per BottleThe Whisky Exchange

I’m nervous…as a whisky novice one of my favourite drams to date was the Yamazaki Distillers Reserve. Now I’m finally getting around to the 12. Will it be better? Nose is giving me the strawberry note I got with the distillers reserve. So a good start. A bit more cereal/barley smelling? Taste is rich, full and bodied. The barley note coming through more on the taste for me. More dried fruit than fresh fruit on the distillers reserve. As a first try, I’m not sure I prefer it?! Tastes a bit harsher if memory serves. Will have to get another distillers reserve to taste side by side!135.0 GBP per Bottle

First time trying this distillery but seems like they’re doing everything right! The first pour on the nose is lovely. The ex red wine casks coming through with a juicy nose, not harsh at all for a young whisky. Sugary sweetness I can’t place the nose and there is good complexity and super fruity! Nose does transition to palate, keeping sweet and fruity. Medium finish and nice and warming. Not too sweet but very nice! Love the addition of the STR casks!50.0 GBP per BottleHedonism Wines

Laphroaig 10 Year Cask Strength (Batch 13)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed October 16, 2022 (edited October 29, 2022)Tasted side by side with standard Laphroaig 10. I actually found the nose a bit tricky, I had to do some digging. But every once in a while it does jump out to bite you! I actually prefer the standard 10 nose in all honesty which I found more vanilla forward… The taste however turns the brine up a notch. Much bigger mouth feel that’s for sure! When going back to the 10 it almost tastes muted. Really knocks it down a peg…Reading
