Aberlour 12 Year Double Cask Matured

Review #78 - Whisk(e)y #55 Purchased for around 29-30 EUR in Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam. Chill-filtered - Yes Added Colour - Yes ABV - 40% Aspect - Golden-amber colour. Nose - Sweet, spicy cinnamon, oak, caramel, honey, vanilla, ripe red apple, caramelised dark sugar, general dried fruit. Sherry influence shines through with some air. Palate - Oily front-end, really quite spicy, sweet, floral-soapy, oak, malt, caramel, vanilla, honey, nutty - hazelnut, subtle peach, milk chocolate. Initially reminds me of a better, darker Glenlivet 12. Finish - Medium in length, leather, cinnamon, oak, cocoa. After-taste shows raisins and dark chocolate, with celery showing up rather late. Upon furrher tasting, the finish misses some sweetness, hence being perceived as slightly...bland. Very enjoyable whisky, bought at a more than decent price.

Nose: dried fruits, baking spice, clove and orange peel. A bit of honeyed malt. Cinnamon, sherry sweetness. Palate: smooth, sweet, fruity. A solid sweet sherry/dried fruit base with a bit of orange peel. I stand by wanting more proof on this expression, but that being said this has a surprising amount of flavor for 40% Finish: shortish, dried fruits, a bit of sweet/earthy sherried oak.

Nose: Orange peel, sweet-aged sherry, raisins, little bit of plum and also some apple. A noticeable cerealy malt, with mild honey a hint of petrichor, and the slightest hint of honeysuckle. Palate: juicy red apple, fresh ripe oranges, a gentle baking spice and a hint of licorice. Honestly this is tasting way better than the other times I've had this. Would love to see this at higher proof if not cask strength. I know that's the A'bunadh line but would be neat for a limited 12y.o. release. Finish: sweet with a very gentle spice. Does not linger. A little bit of bitter oak.

Speyside single malt. Double barrel sherry. Inoffensive and sweet with hint of cherry. Some spiced and salted toffee notes. Finish is well rounded and rich. Nothing too overpowering.
