Nose: smoky and wild, with charcoal and salty, smoked ham or bacon. Hints of apple, straw, tree sap, and oddly enough, carrot.
Palate: thick and oily, with a very pronounced salt and umami profile. Bitter chocolate, and hints of sweetness. Old pine furniture.
Finish: quite long and lingering as the oiliness takes time to dissipate.
Quintissential Ardbeg: smoke, sweet & savory. Raw & bold without tasting "young." A touch of band-aid on the nose, plus black pepper, apple, pear. Smoke, orange peel, tamarind & caramel on the palate. Lingering white pepper & citrus peel on the finish.
