CHICOLATE! it smells and tastes of rich chocolate and vanilla, toasted almonds. And has the tropical Balcones finish you’ll know it when you’ve had a few of theirs. Not overly complex but a nice change of pace.
Nose is cinnamon toast, entry is hot with spice, apples and notes of oak, followed by an oily dark chocolate, more wood, and brown sugar and more spice. The 100% rye mashbill allows nothing to get in the way of the rye and the 100 proof carries it well. I generally like rye whiskies but this is the first 100% rye I've had in a while and it is definitely different.
Nose: Leapt up at me from the glass, cinnamon, sugared doughnuts, stewed apples, some light wood.
Palate: Thin, starts off with a punch of alcohol heat but peters out to tobacco, cacao and earthy raw chocolate.
Finish: Woody but not oak, some malt, black pepper, rye bread.
Notes: My first rye and it's a 100% rye. It's lovely, I've always been a fan of rye when used in beer and so this is a step up from that.
