Barrell Dovetail (122.9 Proof)

Tannic notes on the nose, I can smell the red wine. Nose is very sweet, but unique. comparable to angels envy Body is hot, lots of cinnamon and red hot candy. Finish has considerable burn Overall, I think this bourbon is a hit overpriced. I’m not the biggest fan, but I think people who like some heat would enjoy it. I need to try the other Barrell expressions- this one wasn’t impressive. The nose is the best part unfortunately. The various finishes seem to be more for novelty rather than flavor, as I don’t think the taste of this whiskey is very good or complex. Much better off buying ECBP in this price range.

Not everyone’s cuppa, and it’s an especially poor fit for purists. But I love it for a change of pace. Unusual notes everywhere, with grenadine on the nose and vanilla cupcake or frosted sugar cookies in the mouth. The alcohol bites down just this side of painful — hard enough to keep the whole experience from ever being cloying. And the finish lingers nicely. Superb, and really underrated.

As enjoyable to nose as anything I can think of. Tasting, vanilla, butterscotch and rum converge with a thick, dense mouthfeel & welcome heat. Dovetail doesn’t taste like much of anything I’ve had, including other Barrell offerings—Rare Perfection hits some of the same notes, without as creamy a mouthfeel or as much going on finish wise. The flavors are so purely delicious it’s hard to imagine complaining about them, though there it’s such a substantive, perhaps even wintry pour, I could imagine Dovetail being a bit seasonal for some.

Buttery and creamy at first with a minty finish. Surprisingly light considering the proof.

I give the the palat a 4.25 for flavor and mouthfeel but the finish a 3.75 Almost too sweet. Unique and a definite try before you buy unless you like sweet whiskey then its a definite buy

Nose is the best character of this pour, finished too hot for me.
