Bruichladdich Bere Barley 2012

Nose: Zesty and green orchard fruits. Light honey and prominent cereal sweetness. Some floral and white wine notes. Palate: A touch oily and rich. The flavour of sea air and milk chocolate digestive biscuits. Finish: An initial musty woody spice that melts into a spicy sweet chocolate covered ginger. Dry with a slight aspirin finish. A stone fruit flavour appears on the aftertaste.

Bruichladdich succeeds its marketing goals with this one! Truly special "terroir" character, earthly, grass and dust, sea salty notes, even a hint of peat from the "ground" essence - in a peatless expression!

Nose: Citrus, lime, apple, floral Palate: Vanilla, cereal, malty/gristy, orchard fruit (peach/apple) Finish: Medium long finish. Floral, gristy, ginger, nutty Produced using the 2011 harvest of 5-15 hectares or Bere barley supplied by the Agronomy Institute of Orkney College. Came joint last out of the six drams, with 0% of the final vote for favourite of the night. 47% of those present said they enjoyed the whisky.
