This is rated so low because 50+ dollars for this is robbery. aside from that it wouldnt be so bad at a 30 dollar price point but there is little to nothing that great going on that would impress a scotch fan or actually any single malt fan in general. A deep dark malt note, a small dash if something adjacent to corn sweetness, mild nuttiness and some herbal, earthier notes closer to the end. The color is light and slightly oily but also thin. the finish is definitely earthy with peppery notes. there is no peaty notes, its closer to an earthy wood smoke. Another issue i come across is the new american oak barrels which i find to be slightly bland compared to a bourbon barrel or sherry cask finish in other malts. It comes off young and underdeveloped. if your looking for islay level smoke or a fruity and nutty highland then this is probably not in your best interests. meh :^(
Strong flavor, but a good whiskey. Better as you drink it. Nose is classic, malty, distillery funky smell. It tastes like an "experienced" whiskey. The 100% malt mash hits you in the freaking face, this ain't no boy's whiskey. It's smooth despite the heavy malt, but definitely not sweet, warm, or fruity. Fairly oily mouth feel, but as the tags will show, it's oak, harsh, and hot. Surprisingly good without ice though.
I went to Bulleit Bourbon distillery, and guess what, i found that they have a single malt release!
This very appealing black bottle, is the first single malt from this american distillery, is bottled at 45%abv, made fully from malted barley.
On the nose, a Glenffidich green apple note. Pears, Whip cream.
On the palate i get peaches, hay and honey.
Aftertaste is all about peaches, hay, honey and Tobacco.
Overall i find this one fruity and "cowboish" in a very appealing way. A nice bet from Diageo's Bulleit distillery. My score for this really fine dram is 92 over 100.
When I first heard about this whiskey I was very excited to try it and I was not dissapointed in it. The nose is sweet with vanilla and oak. It does have a different scent from their bourbons and ryes but it is very nice. The body is smooth with oak, vanilla, and a light fruity note. The finish is long and smooth. In cocktails it makes a very nice Old Fashioned with the whiskey holding up well in the drink. I really like this whiskey and I am glad that Bulleit is expanding their offerings this is a good addition in my bar as it is different enough to offer a change of pace. I did have a friend that likes scotch more than bourbon likes this as well since it is less sweet than bourbon. Enjoy.
