Bushmills Black Bush

Like Old Bushmills, but smoother. Has that extra bit of class.

My favourite so far. Since the distillery is located near the sea you'll find the characteristic trait in the taste.

Currently sampling this at Molly Malone's in lovely Whippany,NJ. Definitely different than a standard Jameson's or Bushmills. Tried it neat, and had a nice sweet smell, but still a little harshness. Added some water, and it backed off a bit, but didn't see much flavor change - faint vanilla? Something sweet, maybe raisins? Added some ice, and now the vanilla comes out, and it's much more mellow. Maybe tasting some toffee or butterscotch? Not sure - still a newbie tongue. Interesting to me at least is that the burn doesn't go down to the chest, like I'm used to, but stays in the mouth, around the gums. Maybe because I had a steak? Not sure, but would be happy to hear from the experts if that matters. Patience is rewarded here. After 10 or so minutes, the harshness is gone. Bliss. Thinking I should have gone with 4 stars....

Agreeing with The Big Chis. I had just had Knob Creek, a fairly spicy and robust bourbon, so my tastebuds might have been jaded, but I didn't find the spiciness promised in the expert review. I found the nose fruity and not too assertive. On the palate, I thought it was pretty grain forward. Very malty. I kept thinking about the old Sugar Smacks cereal from my childhood but not quite as sugary. Not terrible, but not inspiring, either.
