This uses the exact same mash bill as your standard BT. With that being said, somehow this is a much sweeter bourbon, which to me is fantastic. They must throw these barrels in a cooler place in the rick house because the difference between products is immediately felt.
Burnt orange color. Sweet, penetrating nose of chocolate covered cherries, pipe tobacco, caramel, cinnamon applesauce, and tangerines. Distinct tangerine notes on the palate as well, with some tobacco and leather, and a not-unpleasant essence of Atomic Fireball jawbreaker candy. Smooth: subdued bourbon burn given the 100 proof. No wonder E.H. Taylor Small Batch is scarce: it's good.
The color is a light red and almost pink. Nose hits like a warm cherry pie. Thick sweet oily consistency. Mouth has a little warmth and bitterness but leans into a nice vanilla and more sweet fruit after that. Aftertaste is a warm bitter but smooth cherry wood. It’s got complexity that I’m picking more of with a little water. Started solid and getting better. Sour apple comes up with a little water. Lots of fruity layers. Not quite getting the chocolate layer…yet. I think there’s more to pick up on and it’s all tasty. Cheers.
