Bitter LiqueursMuch like amaro, bitter liqueurs are made from the maceration or distillation (or combination) of herbs, spices, roots, flowers, or other botanicals. Bitter liqueurs are often red or orange in color, although they needn’t be. Sugar is added before bottling. ABV varies widely.
Tasting Notes
"Major sage and tarragon action initially hit the nose, but further whiffs reveal a balance of fresh berries, plum, and cocoa. More of those chocolatey and fresh berry flavors (as opposed to the typical orange ones) are delivered on the palate along with some nuttiness, but these richer, sweeter flavors are well tempered by the bitter herbal notes. The balance is well matched for a variety of aperitivo cocktails, though the flavors are more on the jammy side. "
