Dewar's White Label

Not a good one. Strong taste of alcohol. Not too peat’y.

Nose: Honey. Apples. Some cinnamon. Ethanol. Faint hints of chocolate coming through. Palate: A little smoky. Honey and vanilla competing. Slight bit more chocolate towards the end as well. The smallest hint of grassiness as well. Finish: Medium-Long. Warm and sweet with some grain and grass. Overall Thoughts: To be honest, I consider this to be more of a Scotch staple than Johnnie Walker. It’s tasty and it’s simple. Never a bad choice when it comes to a blend. Dewar’s was one of the first Scotch whiskies I ever tasted when I was a teenager and when I was trying whatever I could get my hands on. It’s a hearty dram that’s not bad but not groundbreaking. Gets the job done for sure! Always good to have a little bottle in the back cabinet, imo.

Nose: cereal, apples and honey Taste: cereal, oats and honey. Finish: smooth and some oak Papa Jimmy's old whisky. Not a bad sipping scotch but its very tame

Iis been a while so I thought I would sample and compare Dewars White and Johnnie Red for reference so I got a couple 50ml. Poured neat, thin legs, soft subtle nose with light fruit, gentle malt and just a touch of salinity. Thin mouthfeel with sweet malt turning to sooty char note. More heat than expected for proof. Not a lot going on here but nothing unpleasant. Finishes quick with light malt, distant tobacco note and dries to smoke and char. Seems to be lacking in flavor to me, I like whats there it just needs more. Easy enough to drink though and fairly accessible to the masses. Its not bad scotch by any means . Its workmanlike basic blend. It translates to the Jim Beam of scotch imo. Can't see myself buying a bottle but surely will drink it if offered. 73/100

Nose: Honey and heather at the forefront, quite a lot of sweet peat, a hint of smoke behind, some brine, sweet candy apples, a faint hint of bacon, some sherry barrel notes, pear, sweet berry medley (blackberry, cranberry, raspberry), some tangy dark red plum, small hints of lemon and iodine, honeyed maltiness, some butterscotch, some barrel spice and fresh chilli pepper spice, some milk chocolate covered cranberries and raisins, light floral notes (white flowers), a hint of speyside mintiness, some funky grass notes, funky deep barley sugar, small touch of vanilla and caramel covered in wood sugars Palate: white pepper spice surrounded by sweet honey, green grapes, caramel candy apple, wood shavings, lemon peel, green apples, underripe dark red plum, some sweet peat and a wisp of bonfire smoke with some chilli pepper, deep and funky barley sugar Finish: Light speyside mint and herbs, slight anice, barrel bitterness, some green grapes, medium dark chocolate, sweet white pepper spice, pencil shavings, light peat and smoke, hint of apple medley (green and red)
