Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Bourbon

I’m starting to lose faith in distillers “Tasting Notes” and ratings. Their assessment of this bourbon couldn’t be more off-base. There is hardly any spice, no cinnamon notes at all, and it is far from harsh. The nose and the palate are pretty consistent with each other, think graham cracker, marshmallow, sweet syrup. Finish isn’t anything crazy but there is a bit of baking spice and chocolate on the back palate. Very enjoyable, glad I have a couple of backup’s!

2oz neat in Glencairn at home, courtesy of Matt the Lion. Cheers! Nose has oak, cherry, cinnamon spice, some light dry grass. Taste is similar, with the spice coming on strong, then charred oak and light cherry, followed by a second wave of cinnamon spice that dissipate and lingers. This is not a subtle bourbon like the base 94. Slightly xerostomic, with the dried grass and hay notes reappearing, but only for a moment. Overall a very enjoyable bourbon. 8/20/2020.

Marshmallows, and campfire aromas. Huge amounts of vanilla bean and chocolate. Great addition to the Elijah Craig family.
