Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Bourbon

If I had to pick one word to encapsulate my opinion of this bourbon, it would be YUCK. Wasted $50 down the drain (not the bourbon down the drain, though). I got to stop trying new stuff and stay with what I know is good.

Bold nose of baked apples, spicy cinnamon, lanolin and soft campfire smoke. On the palate spicy nutmeg and roasted almonds reign supreme. Everything about this whisky starts big bold and intense, and continues to fade away down through a very muted and quick finish.

Typical bourbon notes. Sweet, slightly floral, caramel, vanilla, thick mouthfeel. Nice, but it's hard to imagine why one would pay a $20 premium over the small batch. It becomes an even harder pill to swallow given some of the excellent private selections I've had. Not displeased but I won't be buying another bottle any time soon.
