Garrison Brothers Balmorhea Texas Straight Bourbon

Oak and toffee on nose. Red fruit and spice that lingers for a while. Pretty good

Shucks, I was really looking forward to this one and have to say I am not a fan. Very rare I don’t like something with this high of a Distiller rating, but I suppose that’s the beauty of bourbon. Many different palettes, many different experiences.

Didn't intend to buy whiskey today, but at $60 less than I've ever seen it, I couldn't resist. I hear the Beverly Hillbillies theme song while sipping this: "Black gold, Texas tea...” Thick, dark, rich, luxuriously oaky. Dessert in a glass. Cinnamon roll, quite bready. Chocolate bourbon pecan pie. A little warmth but not nearly as proofy as the bottle says it is. Responsibility for the impulse splurge goes to @Ctrexman and @ctbeck11 although it appears to have been a screaming deal compared to the typical going rate for this.

My second Garrison Brothers’ bourbon…and yes, I’m now a newly converted believer. These guys are pricey, but there’s wizardry happening here ( courtesy of a damn good distillate, casks, and that Texas scorch ). This was a bit below for me compared to their Cowboy, but let’s face it…the price is half as much as well. So, factoring in the price, it’s damn good. Despite the young age, and Texas heat, the oak influence is really well managed. I’m not getting the feeling of chomping on wood..but rather the cinnamon , vanilla, and oak play well together.
