Bought at Loading Dock Liquors. Color is a nice amber and smell is fantastic - honey, butter, and dried fruits. Very oak forward with honey and spice with sweet grains. Lingering cinnamon and toast. Very interesting blend.
I wanted to like this, but as a sipping whiskey the blend just didn’t work for me. I think the rye overpowered the other flavors, and it didnt mesh with the malt. It’s a good mixer for an old fashooned if you are out of bourbon, and the price is reasonable. For me, I tried it and probably wouldnt get it again.
Grape soda, peanuts, spicy cinnamon. Curious why i like this so much - turns out its 20% their ASM. Of course thats whats adding complexity to the standard JD profile.
It is sweet and malty on the nose. Those notes carry over on the palate. There is a dark honey sweetness with typical single malt smoothness. Those notes are well balanced with the black pepper spiciness of the rye. The pepper intensifies a bit on the finish and there is a hint of 100% hest and astringency. This is the best iteration if Jack Daniels I have ever encountered, and may well be the distillery’s best ever.
