Mount Gay 1703 Old Cask Selection Rum
Mount Gay // Barbados
Founded in 1703, Mount Gay is the oldest rum distillery in the world. Mount Gay 1703 Old Cask Selection Rum pays tribute to the founding of this distillery in Barbados with this blend of selected rums aged between 10 and 30 years. Mount Gay has a reputation as the "sailor’s rum", due to the frequent stopovers of ships at Barbados from the Atlantic Ocean on their way to trade in the Caribbean.
Aged RumRum that is aged, but no specific type or size barrel required. No set time required for length of aging, but will often carry an age statement (which should be taken with a grain of salt). Often thought of as "sipping rums".
"Notes of honey and molasses-cookies are interspersed with oak and tropical fruit aromas. In the mouth, the initial entry is quite dry and oaky, with vanilla, more molasses, a whiff of smokiness and a hint of hogo, a characteristic funkiness that some rums will show. The finish is quite dry and bitter, with a bit of cinnamon and a tannic sensation on the tongue."
