Old Fitzgerald Bottled in Bond 17 Year (Spring 2022)

Dried fruit, nutmeg, extremely rich, very delicious

Nose is very woody, consistent with that old of an aging as well as vanilla. I actually get a nice soft vanilla start. It is very smooth. The mid-taste to finish is where it gets special. More of a bitter profile with tobacco, dark chocolate, and smoke. Finish is very oaky. Awesome pour.

The nose is overwhelmingly oak and barrel char which is to be expected with a 17yr, but after letting it breathe I get sugar and nutmeg. It almost reminds me of sweet tea. On the palate it's gucci. It's ridiculously smooth. The balance of sweetness and age is perfect with the age and char tempering the brown sugar sweetness. Cinnamon comes through as you're admiring how sweet it is and remind you you're drinking bourbon. The finish is soft, but goes on for some time. This is a damn good pour, glad I opened it!

Nose: caramel, vanilla, red fruit, Palate: where is it? Seriously. Giving this the old chew and I really don’t find much going on until I swallow it and see what the finish has to offer. Maybe I’ve been hitting the barrel proofers a little too hard, but even the 14 and 15 year had more going on. Finish here is mostly dry oak, little bit of baking spice. Fairly one-dimensional, this is perhaps a quintessential wheater that has been over-aged into boringness.
