Ole Smoky Blackberry Moonshine

A delicate, Moonshine by Ole Smoky Distillery in Gatlinburg, Tennessee bottled at 20% ABV. It has an aromatic birth with notes of blackberry, while a fruity life led to a balanced death of medium length. October 2023

Cough syrup. Yikes.

Pretty good flavor but to me it taste more like cranberry instead of blackberry

My father in law, who likes this kind of thing, hated this and abandoned it at my house. My expectations are incredibly low, but I’ll try to not let that get in the way. My first thought, when the lid stuck to the jar, was holy shit this must be sugary. The nose, basically blackberry jelly, blackberry candy, and blackberry wine, thus far confirms my initial diagnosis. Now for a taste. It’s sweet, but not nearly as sweet as I thought it would be. There’s actually a little bit of a sourness to the flavor, which is essentially blackberry wine, blackberry jelly, rosso vermouth and cough syrup. In any event it certainly isn’t good, either objectively or subjectively, but I may just keep it while I have space. In the glass it’s only slightly purplish, and looks close enough to bourbon if you aren’t really looking that it might be fun to pour for unsuspecting friends.
