Petty's Island Rye Oak Reserve Rum
Petty's Island // New Jersey, USA
Petty's Island rums are named for an island, with an epic history of pirates and shipwrecks, in the Delaware river. The Rye Oak Reserve begins as a pot-distilled white rum that is then aged 8-10 months in charred oak barrels previously used for rye whiskey.
Gold RumRum that is often aged, but can also just have caramel-coloring added to provide color. No specific type or size barrel required. No set time required for aging for most countries with a few exceptions.
"The nose is slightly grassy with added woodiness from barrel aging that does not add additional vanilla. Wood tends to overwhelm caramel and vanilla on the palate but does emphasize the pepperiness that characterizes rye. There's a slight smoky quality on a finish that ushers in the previously suppressed caramel."
