Water is added to bring the spirit down to as low as 37.5% ABV in the EU and 40% ABV in the US. It is usually filtered, often with charcoal, prior to bottling. It is almost always clear and unaged.

"Sweet anise aroma hits you as you smell this vodka. The vodka is soft and watery on your palate. Again, you get the anise and it's moderately sweet. The finish is dry and slightly bitter. Overall the vodka is plush and sweet -- a bit too sweet for a vodka, but it isn't unpleasant."
