Over a cube of ice again. This is the best way to enjoy this malt. It starts with all of the flavors of a Islay and the profile changes continuously as the ice melts. Pour more scotch than ice and enjoy this one.
Better with water. Just sampled. Water brings up some of the apple fruit notes and sweetness. I get the spice lingering with some cinnamon. Certainly smoky and peaty. A dry but sweet licorice finish after the spice and cinnamon fades.
Nose is smokey, with an odd plasticy note that dissipated as it rested. Needed some water but in general smooth for the proof. Not a whole lot of character, but a nice dram.
Also good over a cube of ice. The profile is different. Gone are the subtle butterscotch and caramel. Replaced with brine, smoke, and a finish that I can’t place.
Nose - damp campfire ashes, smoldering grass, and a bit of lemon sharpness
Taste - a lot of spices, cloves, black pepper, red pepper, a bit of meatiness that’s hard to place, a bit of iodine with slightly acrid smoke in the background
Finish - dry and spicy, rye smoke actually mellows out nicely at the end, medium burn, doesn’t taste like a high proof
