I toured rock town and did their whiskey enthusiast tour that samples 8 of their different whiskeys. It was an enjoyable tour and the distillery does some really neat stuff. Although I’m reviewing their entry level bourbon, I think a lot of this review applies to a many of their whiskey products. With the exception of their barley, everything else is locally sourced from the grains to the barrels. My opinion of this bourbon and all of their whisky that I sampled is they have some potential for some really neat stuff. However 22 months just isn’t long enough for the price point they are trying to sell. Everything is just a bit too young. Their bottled in bond tasted quite a bit better likely due to having more age. I have a soft spot for smaller operations like this. However for as long as they’ve been in business I think it’s enough time to make sure an entry level bourbon like this has more time in the barrel. I live in Arkansas and can actually purchase Russell’s ten year for less than this. Four roses single barrel is within a few dollars. I think Rock Town is a need operation and definitely worth trying if you enjoy whiskeys. Are you going to find the next hidden gem in the bourbon world that you can’t find elsewhere? Not yet.
