I’m revisiting this. I previously gave it a 3.0. I’m just burned out chasing “rare” and “special” bourbons. I’ve really tried to focus on what the good bourbons are that I personally like and can actually find. For the money, makers 101 is a great value under $40. It’s an easy sipper and makes a great old fashioned.

Yellowstone Select Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 23, 2022 (edited December 5, 2022)Local store has it on sale for $29. At that price, I think it’s a great deal. I don’t find it as spicy as some others do. I also get an occasional peanut butter note on the finish.29.0 USD per Bottle -
Redwood Empire Lost Monarch Whiskey
Blended American Whiskey — USA
Reviewed November 16, 2022 (edited November 24, 2022)I dont know what to say. You may love this. I bought a high west American prairie finished in scotch barrels. I bought glenfiddich scotch finished in bourbon barrels. I hated them I haven’t particularly loved finished bourbons like doc swinsons, Isaac bowman, derringer rabbit hole and beyond. I like my scotch to be scotch, bourbon to be bourbon, and cognac to be cognac. As a kid I mixed all my sodas at Pizza Hut because of peer pressure from my friends and thought it sucked. I don’t particularly like my side items to touch the main course. In my opinion, finished and blended whiskeys remind me of being a kid with a set of paints and you think if you mix them together you think you’ll invent some new color but it ends up being an ugly brownish gray. If my comments resonate with you, this might be a bottle to avoid. If I sound like an old man that complains about change, this might be just what you need.
