Reviewed September 16, 2024An elegant, Rum by Juan Alberto Alvarez in the Dominican Republic crafted with local sugar cane juice that is fermented for 30 hours & aged at 70 proof for 10 to 15 years in ex-bourbon barrels using the Solera method before being bottled at 40% ABV. It has an aromatic birth with notes of sugar, citrus, dried fruit, nut, wood & spice; while a rich life adds notes of orange, raisin, dried cherry, vanilla & coconut; that leads to a balanced & semi-sweet death of medium length with notes of pepper, almond, toasted oak & smoke. Reviewed February 6, 2022I was excited when I first picked this one up. The large container with the solid wood lid was impressive, as was the bottle with wood cap and deep reddish brown hue. The taste was fruity and sweet, reminding me most of cherry to cherry cream. There was a bit of toffee and caramel, and a woodiness as well. Tried with an ice cube kind of washed out the sweetness. Not as wonderful as the presentation suggested but still and overall tasty rum. -

Reviewed July 25, 2018Paul picked it up after a recommendation from Jeff at total wine, a fair sipper but just planning on pouring it in coke to finish it off. Won't be buying it again.
