An older more complex Rye. Drink straight or make a big treat of an old fashion! Still does not have the depth and complexity of other ryes just above this price range and yet drilling down to a 30$ isn’t a big dif. So this is a hard one for me to stock.
On the nose it smells almost like a cake with vanilla frosting. In the mouth there is a pinch of rye spice/pepper on the front of the mouth with very little burn or in fact any sensation in the back of the mouth. Little chest warmth for a 90, quite smooth but a bit bland.
Whiskey night tasting: wasn't tasted side-by-side with WT101 Rye, but I taste a lot of similarity. Maybe somewhat more refined, although I may prefer the slight bump in proof and cheaper price of the 101. I'll give it the same rating I gave the 101.
Poured neat in a Canadian Glencairn. Aroma is wood heavy with hints of toasted marshmallow. Flavor is closer to a high-rye bourbon than many other ryes I’ve had. A bit spicy in the finish but overall not very assertive.
