Sagamore Spirit Double Oak Rye

Syrupy sweet liquid candy with some spearmint. Pretty good viscous finish. A good rich oak.

I've had this bottle for a while, it's on its last few ounces. I'll start right out, it's very good. On the nose there's a good measure of wood (as expected), sweet vanilla, cinnamon toast crunch cereal, cherry, dill and slight menthol. The flavor is rich, complex and spicy with cinnamon, ginger, allspice, nutmeg, burnt sugar and more. There's heat, but its balanced. There's sweetness, but its foundational and not out of place. Compared to Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye this is a bit richer, slightly less spicy, and delivers more of the barrel notes. It has a bit more of the cedar or evergreen element that I get from Lot 40 and Whistle Pig than the WTRBR offers up, but in neither expression is this a major note. Overall I love this rye. It's a solid choice for the price for sipping neat and it makes for a very complex and suave Manhattan. Recommended.

Much better than the non double-oaked rye. Still light on the nose and up front, but finishes with an enjoyable rye spiciness.

On the nose , definitely know it’s a rye but in an overwhelming manner. Obviously oak and maple syrup sweetness. Taste follows the nose. You really get that maple that comes through along with the rye spice and some pepper on the backend. It’s a nice bottle that will be pleasing to most especially if they like a maple syrup sweet profile. Not one I reach for too often, but it never is disappointing.

I’m digging this. Has a nice spearmint taste. Not like gum spicy mint. But a subtle fresh mint from the garden. Thick Carmel nose with no wood/oak smell. Also little to no oak in the taste. Thicker after taste that lingers like a Carmel candy

Disappointed…

Tried this at a tasting of the Sagamore Spirt core expressions and this is the one that stood and had to come home with me. It’s different in all the good ways and delicious plain and simple. The nose is exiting and lovely…warm dark oak, dried cherries with a hint of apricot, candied walnuts and toffee all of which carry through to the taste with some added orange peel and very nice rye spice. The taste is DEEP and dark and lingering through the finish. This is a truly unique rye that I enjoy thoroughly each time I come back to it.
