Sazerac // Kentucky, USA
This rye whiskey contains a mashbill of Minnesota rye, Kentucky corn, and North Dakota malted barley. Distilled to 135 proof in the spring of 1998, the rye whiskey entered the barrel at 125 proof. It matured for 18 years in new, charred American oak barrels on the second floor of Warehouse K.
Only 25 barrels make up this batch. Note: this rye was placed in stainless-steel tanks in 2016 to prevent further aging. It is 90 proof at bottling.

RyeUnlike bourbon, rye whiskey can be made anywhere in the world. But if made in the US, the mash bill recipe must be at least 51% rye and it must be aged in new, charred oak barrels with no age requirement. Elsewhere, the rye whiskey will be made keeping the country of origin's rules regarding the recipe and minimum aging.

Tasting Notes
"Lots of leather and dark rye spice on the nose so much that it is reminiscent of a saloon. Smells tough somehow. Apple skins and vanilla accompany the leather and rye. As to be expected these aromas translate on to the palate with the sweetness dialed down. Toasted vanilla and brown butter join in and the rye has a tangy finish. Damn good rye."
