Nose: briny, smouldering seaweed, a hint of fresh asphalt, pungent peat, sweet oak, charred zucchini, pepper.
Palate: phenolic, a little nutty, smoky charred oak. A sweet vanilla, BBQ'd vegetables, strong brine. An underlying spiciness.
A little dilution brings a sweeter caramel notes.
Finish: lingering peat smoke and tannic oak with a notable brine.
Nose: tarry rope, black pepper, vanilla cream, underlying vanilla bean, sea spray coming from a wave crashing into a jetty. A touch of smokey charred oak and a hint of seaweed.
Palate: coastal, oceanic. Sweet, caramel and vanilla. Black pepper is notable here too. A nice little bit of campfire embers, charred oak. A hint of cayenne/chili spice. Slight nuttiness.
Finish: charred oak both tannic and sweet, peppery. Warming.
Coming into this after a pub trivia night so the palate is not very clean.
Nose: sweet and creamy, black pepper, smouldering wet coastal campfire/peatfire. Vanilla, fragrant charred oak. This time I'm getting a slight touch of lambic touched oak? A nice coastal salinity.
Palate: coastal, briny, roasted peanut, pepper. Charred oak bitterness. An undergirding bit of sweetness. I almost think I like this bottle more when it oxidizes a bit? While it brings out some notes I love I think it also it makes it sharper and less enjoyable overall.
Finish: phenolic, salty, lingering smoke, a bit of metallic acridity
Nose: buttery, strong coastal sea spray, a bit of honey, notable peat, light brown sugar, almost a floral/jammy berry note. A hint of snickerdoodle
Palate: sea spray, a bit of campfire smoke, vanilla. A bit of charred oak, cinnamon spice. Slightly nutty. Peat character here is a bit similar to the Ledaig 10. Notably peppery.
Finish: a bit of stone/minerality, moderate drying oak.
