Reviewed August 5, 2022 (edited August 6, 2022)Tamdhu Batch Strength Batch 004 was one of my favorite Scotches to date. Which brings us to this one. I was very glad to have found one of these Batch 003 bottles. This one clocks in half a percent higher than the 004 at 58.3% ABV. Outside of that, it’s the same formula. So let’s hope the quality is also consistent. Nose: Poundcake, raisin, date, fig, plum, and grape. Cola. Absolute Sherry bomb. Carrot cake and custard. Caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, and milk chocolate. Orange cream soda. Cocoa. Dried apricot. Orange peel and black pepper. Clove, nutmeg, cinnamon and oak. A lot of heat. Palate: Gala apple and apricot. Plum, raisin, date, and fig. Caramel, vanilla, and cola. Grape and cranberry. Big-time cherry note. Orange cream soda. Milk chocolate and orange zest. Chestnut and a touch of pound cake. Cinnamon, black pepper, clove, nutmeg, and oak. Finish: Plum, date, fig, plum, and orange zest. Caramel, brown sugar, coffee, and chestnut. Orange cream soda. Black pepper, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and oak. Long finish—I’d expect nothing less. Fantastic. What an absolute beast of a sherry bomb. It’s hot as hell but balanced and hits all of my favorite sherried-Scotch notes with powerful, undiluted ferocity. Despite, the heat, every flavor is still easily accessible. 5/5. Worth every penny of the $86 I paid to get this. I’d pay more to get another. It’s a gem from the past, so recommending this batch is not helpful, but based on this and my experience with 004, we have a winner with this line. With that in mind, I’ll be buying any future batch with confidence.86.0 USD per Bottle -

Reviewed April 11, 2022 (edited April 3, 2023)Prior to trying Glendronach 15, I hadn’t previously been interested in unpeated sherried scotch. But trying that one piqued my interest. I have since obtained Macallan Classic Cut in a trade, and now this one, a little dusty sitting on a local shelf. A splash of water is recommended on this one. It's good neat, but it's even better with a splash, although if you overdo it, I think it goes too tannic. After trying this, I can see Fox's comparison with a barrel proof bourbon, as oddly, despite being aged exclusively in sherry casks, this hits with quite a bit of caramel and vanilla. The sherry fruits are there too, along with chocolate and some spicy barrel notes on the finish. I gotta say, I really enjoy this. I love the sherry fruitiness balanced by the bourbony caramel and spice with a little bitter dark chocolate. Top notch. Apparently sherry bombs are now in my wheelhouse. By the way, who drinks all the sherry that provides these casks for whisky aging? Do you know anyone who drinks sherry? Do I need to start drinking sherry to do my part to ensure there continues to be sherry casks for whisky like this?89.0 USD per Bottle -

Reviewed May 20, 2021 (edited August 5, 2022)Amazing nose, extremely rich, fat, palate but the finish is the weaker spot with a weird change in direction. Still terrific stuff. 24-25-22-22=93 -

Reviewed February 26, 2021 (edited August 5, 2022)Tamdhu was unknown to me till 2020. Now it is essential in my bar. Actually most of whisky drinkers have taste Tamdhu in some form, since it was used for popular blends as the Famous Grouse, J&B and Cutty Sark. This batch strength 3, is the third release of their purest, strongest spirit, bottled at 58.3%abv., chesnut color. On the nose, hard to beat. It starts with a home-made beautiful toffee note, thick caramel, tangerine and caramelized apple. Nutmeg, aniseed, pepper; it is really spicy on the nose!. Chocolate truffle, coffee, oranges, flan caramel, new wood and condensed milk. Marvelous. On the palate it is a little oily, harsh, and spicy, maybe too much. Toffee mixed with wasabi and chilli. A second sip revealed orange juice, pepper, salt and leather. Chocolate milk powder. It gets easier as you drink more :) Aftertaste is great. The first time i had it, it gave me a smokey note. Chilli, white chocolate, tobacco. Medium long. Overall, this is like having a steroid version of the Tamdhu 12. It is very good and rewarding. You should let it breath a little to atone it. My score for it is a solid 90 over 100. -

Reviewed December 10, 2020 (edited August 5, 2022)Nose: dark honey, dark sweets, a little iodine, brown sugar Palate: dried fruits, candied walnuts, apple pie filling, fresh strawberries, caramel, orange rind Finish: cinnamon red hots, fresh red fruit, hint of mossy peat, vanilla, more citrus rind Given this is almost 60% alcohol, it’s surprisingly smooth with little ethanol burn or boozy odor. It’s really delicious and if you like Aberlour Abunadh, you’ll dig this. I bought two bottles...it’s that good.
