Neat. Golden straw color, coats the glass with long legs. Aroma is agave with the slight, but noticeable hogo from the rum barrel, slight mineral and herbs. Taste is sweet with agave mixed with sugar cane, vanilla, slight oak, herbs, some dessert spices (cardamom, nutmeg/allspice). Richness/mouthfeel is fairly thin. Finish is long, sweet, but with some tart/bitterness for a little balance.
I think it's absolutely delicious. I love the rum barrel influence. Tastes natural. But, I don't get near the oak, caramel/butterscotch, vanilla, richness, and color that you'd think from an extra añejo. It really feels like an reposado aged in used rum barrels. Which is fine since the typical EA flavors would likely mask the rum and be too syrupy sweet.
Then there's my struggle. Value. Paying XA+ prices when there's nothing XA about it..but dang it's good and unique.
