Tres Generaciones Reposado Tequila

A little while back when I first started exploring Tequilas, Tres Generaciones Anejo was one of the first I tasted and reviewed and it was pretty darn good. So a good friend of mine brought over a bottle of their Reposado to try and I was quite excited to give it a go... The nose falls heavy with agave but isn't overpowering. Some tangerine peel adds a bit of a citrusy tannic bite. There is a bit of astringent alcohol that I don't recall from the nose on the Anejo. Some black pepper gives the nose some spicy body, tickling the inside of your nostrils a bit. The initial taste is that of agave and caramel. However, that thick sweetness quickly gives way to citrus, tannic oak and tongue prickling black peppercorn. There's a bit of dry hay bale here that punches in with something a bit astringent and hard hitting. Is it too obvious to say alcohol? After all, it was rather present on the nose. The finish is filled with spicy and tannic flavors. The tongue prickling black peppercorn mellows out but is very much center stage on the finish. Breathing through your mouth reveals that familiar herbaceous Agave taste, cut grass, and more of that dry hay bale. It leaves a bit of a medicinal bitterness at the back of your throat. The wonderful world of tequila confuses me. While this Reposado isn't awful and really quite palatable, for half the money Corralejo is so much better. This Reposado is complex but I think distinctly lacks sweetness and brings on flavors a bit too harsh for a good Reposado.

Smooth and easy drink of tequila

Neat. Clear, straw color. Aroma is alcohol, some oak, vanilla, black pepper, slightly herbal, raw agave, minerals. Taste is a bit harsh, dominated by black pepper, alcohol, slight raw agave, pear, vanilla, oak, caramel, baking spices. Finish is simple, dry, bitter, black pepper, some saccharine sweetness, very slight vanilla/caramel. Not a sipping tequila, unless you like overwhelming black pepper. Too expensive for mixing. There are better options for half the price
